Wes Edens Reportedly Looking to Bring an MLS Team to Las Vegas
Billionaire Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wes Edens has been reported to have an interest in bringing an MLS team to Las Vegas. Edens, who also owns the Premier League club AFC Bournemouth, would be one of the first major American sports owners to own an MLS franchise if he were to bring a team to Sin City.
Edens Reportedly Looking to Bring an MLS Team to Las Vegas
Financial services executive Wes Edens has purchased a stake in English soccer club Aston Villa. Though he doesn’t intend to take a lead role in running Villa, his investment is a strong indication that he might have an interest in bringing a Major League Soccer franchise to Las Vegas. In fact, multiple reports have indicated that there was already interest from other sports moguls looking to bring their franchises into Sin City. If all goes well, residents of Southern Nevada could be supporting their own team as early as 2022.
Billionaire Owns NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks
Wes Edens, a co-owner of Milwaukee Bucks, bought a large stake in Second Round Capital in 2011. He has also been reported to have an interest in bringing an MLS team to Las Vegas.
Other Investments by Wes Edens
In addition to his stake in a possible MLS team, Edens owns a part of a number of other sporting-related ventures. As part of Fortress Investment Group LLC, he co-owns two professional basketball teams: The Milwaukee Bucks and The Philadelphia 76ers. He’s also bought into an English Premier League soccer club, Aston Villa F.C., as well as FlyQuest, which is an eSports league.
According to ESPN news services, Mr. Edens has taken over ownership of NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr.’s car for four races during 2017 after Truex’s team could not find funding for them all season long. This isn’t so surprising though since Mr. Edens is no stranger to competitive sports; early on in his career, he played baseball for Columbia University.
